Fernando Sabino

Educator/Dancer/Choreographer

Educator, choreographer, consultant, Fernando Sabino, was born in Brazil. Fernando started dancing at Ballet Renata Celidonio at age 14. He studied there for five years before moving to Cuba where he danced with Prodanza, under the direction of Laura Alonzo, for one year. He then studied at Juilliard in the summer program on full scholarship before joining Richmond Ballet in 2006. While dancing with the company he worked with many choreographers that included Larry Rose, Jessica Lang, Ma Cong, Val Caniparoli, William Soleau, Gina Patterson and Malcolm Burn. He danced several principal roles in both classical and contemporary repertoires such as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Adam in John Butlers Adam and Eve, a Sailor in Jerome Robbins Fancy Free, Siegfried in Swan Lake, Prince Charming in Sleeping Beauty, Duo Concertante and Who Cares? by George Balanchine, The Chosen One in Salvatore Aiello's Rite of Spring just to name a few.  After 14 years of dancing with the Richmond Ballet, he retired in May 2020 and started collaborating with the Latin Ballet of Virginia on its educational programs and helping training the professional company, sharing his passion for his own culture and the love for classical ballet.
