NuYoRican tells the story of the Puerto Rican people who migrated to the United States after World War II and the cultural shock they experienced because of the enormous changes that followed from Puerto Rico being declared a U.S. protectorate. From the post-war era until the 1960s, Puerto Ricans migrated to the mainland in a steady stream, in search of jobs and better living conditions.

Through NuYoRican, the Latin Ballet will depict the daily lives and loves, sadness and the struggles of a strong people as they faced being strangers in a strange land. The production also captures the essence of the Puerto Ricans’ Spanish and African roots with dances like La Plena y La Bomba, as well as Mambos, Salsas, Latin Jazz and Reggaeton.
