It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
— Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince

A performing arts interpretation of the poetic and philosophic story Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The Little Prince brings to life an important message for children and adults alike:

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux,”

Our Friend, the Pilot

The Pilot

“Little Prince lived alone in a very tiny planet; no larger than a house. He had 3 volcanoes:  2 active and one extinct (but you never know). He also has a flower… his Rose, unlike any flower in the entire galaxy, of a great beauty and extraordinary pride. It was this pride that ruined the serenity of the Little Prince’s world and started him on the travels that brought him at last to the Earth where he learned a lesson from the Fox, the secret of what is really important in life.”

Little Prince Visits Asteroid 326 - “The Business Man”

“Asteroid 326 belonged to a Business Man; He was busy constantly counting the stars he believed he owned… He was so serious and did not have time for anything but his work - collecting stars in order to buy more.”

Little Prince Visits Asteroid 327 - “The Geographer”

“This little planet was inhabited by a Geographer who did not know the number of rivers, mountains, and oceans her beautiful planet had because it was the job of an explorer to count the rivers, mountains and oceans. The Geographer could draw a map, but this planet had no explorer.”

Little Prince Visits Asteroid 328 - “The Tippler”

“This planet was inhabited by a drunkard. He drank to forget he was ashamed, but he was ashamed because he was drinking.”

Little Prince Visits Asteroid 328 - “The Conceited Man”

“This asteroid was inhabited by a very vain person; a “conceited man” who was the only man on his planet, but he believed he was the most handsome, the best dressed, richest and most intelligent.”

The Little Prince Visits Asteroid 329 - “The Lamplighter”

“Asteroid 329 was very strange. There was only enough room for a street lamp and a lamplighter. It was such a small planet that he could see a sunset every minute. When the lamplighter lit his street lamp, it was as if he were bringing another star to life, or another flower. When he turned out his lamp he put the flower or star to sleep. What a fine occupation!”

“What moves me so deeply about the Little Prince is his loyalty to a FLOWER. The image of a Rose that shines through his whole being like a flame of a lamp.

The Return of the Little Prince

“My dear friend, the Pilot: Let me go to my flower.

Let all the stars of the universe laugh of happiness

Because I am with her, because you tamed me.”

What is The Little Prince? The Little Prince is a book written by the French author, journalist, and pilot, Antoine de Saint-Exupery. It was written in 1943, one year before his death. Is it the most well known of his novels. From the outside it appears to be a simple children’s tale. The Little Prince is actually a profound and deeply moving book written in riddles and laced with philosophy and poetic metaphors. The book has been translated into many languages from the original French version. It was also made into a play and a movie, and the children’s cable channel Nickelodeon in America ran a cartoon series in the mid-80s based upon the prince, his rose, and his adventures.
